Planting in the Fall
One of the questions we hear often this time of year is: “Is it too late to plant outdoor plants now?” Our answer is always a resounding NO!
In fact, fall planting has many benefits:
Perfect root conditions – Cooler air temperatures and warm soil are ideal for root development. Plants focus on building strong roots now, so they’re ready to thrive next spring.
Reduced water needs – While new plantings still need water, the cooler days and nights mean less frequent watering.
Less stress – With the hottest summer days behind us, plants avoid the extreme heat that can slow or damage new growth.
Fewer pests & weeds – Less competition for nutrients and less stress on foliage helps plants establish more easily.
Lots of time – We still have 10+ weeks of growing potential this fall—plenty of time for strong root establishment!
And here’s a little insider tip: many of us who work in the plant world do most of our planting in the fall. Why? Because it’s truly the best time!
Happy Planting!
