Shop From Your Own Backyard! Berries Galore From Spring To Fall
Fresh homegrown berries taste amazing! Picked at the height of sweetness, you will be addicted in no time. With a selection of different types, you can enjoy the bounty from May to October!
First up are Haskaps – These super hardy berries are ready for harvest late May through June. With a taste similar to blueberry and raspberry, they are chock full of antioxidants, and make amazing jam.
Next up are Strawberries! Choose June bearing plants if you want to freeze some or make jam – as well as eating fresh of course! A few everbearing strawberry plants will provide snacks and “breakfast” berries all season long.
Raspberries – So many varieties! There are early ones – mid-July, later ones to pick in August, and some that bear 2 crops – July and September! One of the best-tasting raspberries is the Fall Gold Variety. These delicate golden yellow berries are produced in September and October. They are not commercially produced on a large scale, so definitely one of the best berries to enjoy from your own garden!
Blueberries! Nutritious and Delicious!! Again, many many varieties – low bush, high bush, pink berries, large and small berries. Blueberries thrive in well drained, acid soil – soil conditioners are available to help with this – and require a second variety for cross pollination. If space is tight, 2 or 3 plants can be planted together to make “1 large bush”. Blueberry bushes also have a beautiful fall colour, so they can make a nice addition to a perennial or shrub garden!
All of these berry plants are easy care and generally pest free. It’s always a good time to plant berries!
